The MYTHEN detector for X-ray powder diffraction experiments at the Swiss Light Source

Abstract: The MYTHEN single-photon-counting silicon microstrip detector has been developed at the Swiss Light Source for time-resolved powder diffraction experiments. An upgraded version of the detector has been installed at the SLS powder diffraction station allowing the acquisition of diffraction patterns over 120 in 2 in fractions of seconds. Thanks to the outstanding performance of the detector and to the calibration procedures developed, the quality of the data obtained is now comparable with that of traditional hi… Show more

“…The beam spot size was 0.5 × 0.5 mm. A MYTHEN (Microstrip sYstem for Time‐rEsolved experimeNts) detector system was used to collect the XRD patterns in the range of −60° to −5° and 5° to 60° in 2 θ 14. The detector system characteristics were summarized in Table 1 13, 14…”

“…Some measurements were performed at the synchrotron beamline B1 of the storage-ring DORIS III in HASYLAB/DESY, Hamburg, Germany [41][42][43]. SAXS patterns were recorded with a Pilatus 300k positionsensitive detector (Dectris Ltd, Switzerland) [44]. Later, SAXS was re-measured with a Pilatus 1M detector [45][46].…”

“…For x-ray detection, a MythenII striptype single-counting photon detector is employed. 47 The detector area consists of 1280 strips of 50 μm width and 8 mm height. The background events and low energy noise induced in the detector can be diminished by a low-energy discriminator set at a value of 5 keV.…”
