Synchronous Removal of Arsenic and Fluoride from Aqueous Solution: A Facile Approach to Fabricate Novel Functional Metallopolymer Microspheres

Abstract: Concurrence of arsenic (As) and fluoride (F–) ions in groundwater is a serious concern due to their fatal effects. Herein, an attempt was made to fabricate quaternized poly(zirconyl dimethacrylate-co-vinylbenzyl chloride)] (ZrVBZ), a metallopolymeric microsphere in three-dimensional shape with a porous texture. The synthesized ZrVBZ was utilized for the synchronal removal of As and F– from water. Techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance, scanning electron micr… Show more

“…Henceforth, both adsorption and desorption investigation studies were performed. After the adsorption experiments by As(V) and F, eluting reagents like NaOH, HCl, and distilled water were employed [ 43 ]. The desorption percentage of AC was gauged after each desorption cycle.…”

“…The uptake of As(V) and F was measured. The regeneration studies were carried out for the adsorbed AC utilized in single and binary adsorption of As(V) and F. After the adsorption, the AC was treated with various eluting reagents like 0.1 M NaOH, 0.1 M HCl, and distilled water for desorption studies [ 43 ].…”

“…This could be because of higher negative charge of phosphate and formation of stable innersphere complex with the PBN. [50,51] Furthermore, the interference of phosphate is relatively higher in case of arsenate than fluoride which might be due to the structural resemblance of PO 4…”

“…Figure 1b shows that after reaching the optimal concentration, the removal percentage hardly changed. Since there is a finite number of active sites for a certain DBB dose, the absorption rate will naturally decrease as the number of accessible active sites depletes [43,44].…”
