“…Gastrointestinal tract carcinomas are most frequently associated with GIST [9,10] . The presence of hepatic nodules in patients with a GIST must be carefully evaluated using appropriate immunohistochemical marker panel in order to distinguish metastatic GIST from other histogenetically distinct lesions (PEComa in the current case).…”

“…This may be due to the fact that most stromal tumours originate from the stomach. Some researchers have suggested that this coincidence is probably linked to Helicobacter pylori infection [3,16]. Wronski et al reported that only 4 of 28 GIST patients had an accompanying solid tumour and that, in all of these cases, the stromal tumour was of stomach origin.…”

“…The stomach is the primary location in approximately 60-70% of cases, followed by the small intestine in 20-30% of cases. Gastrointestinal stromal tumours located in the small intestine are more aggressive than other types [1][2][3]. Although nausea, emesis, abdominal pain, GIS haemorrhage, and non-specific symptoms associated with metastatic disease are common, asymptomatic cases are not uncommon [1].…”
