Synchronization of ovulation with human chorionic gonadotropin in lactating dairy cows with ovarian cysts during heat stress

Abstract: A study was conducted during hot season to determine the effect of synchronization of ovulation with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) on fertility of lactating dairy cows with ovarian cysts. Non cyclic Holstein dairy cows (n = 80) were stratified by parity and diagnosed as having an ovarian cyst. The cows were further identified as follicular or luteal cysts according to the plasma progesterone (P4) concentration and the cystic image of ultrasonography. Cystic cows were randomly assigned to receive treatment… Show more

“…Therefore, the detection of ovarian cysts in the described manatee was possible only after necropsy. The pathogenesis of the formation of ovarian cysts is well known in humans [ 30 , 31 ], cattle [ 32 34 ], pigs [ 35 ], cats [ 41 ] and dogs [ 39 , 40 ]. There is no available data regarding the formation of ovarian cysts in female manatees.…”

“…On the other hand, diet, living conditions, stress and age play a crucial role in the development of hormonal imbalance and, subsequently, lead to the formation of cysts or reproductive organ neoplasia. In cattle, the presence of ovarian cysts may cause behavioural disorders [ 28 , 33 , 34 ]. It is unclear whether such behavioural disturbances occur in marine mammals.…”

“…The estrus ends approximately at the rupture of ovary follicle or at the start of ovulation (Hafez and Hafez, 2016). The duration of estrus in the combined PGF 2 α and hCG is because hCG does not directly affect the ovary (Navanukraw et al, 2015). Instead, the hormones produced by the hypothalamus stimulate the synthesis and release the follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) from Anterior Pituitary (Araujo et al, 2009).…”

“…Akhtar et al (2013) suggests that hCG may increase the conception rates of buffaloes up to 100%. In addition, Navanukraw et al (2015) maintained that the administration of hCG in the synchronization of dairy cows was more effective in increasing pregnancy rates.…”
