Porto Alegre - RS 1 RESUMO No Rio Grande do Sul cultiva-se o arroz como monocultura há pelo menos 5 décadas. Uma alternativa para introduzir-se rotação de cultura seria o cultivo do milho, aproveitando-se da estrutura de irrigação utilizada para o arroz. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar diferentes manejos de irrigação e drenagem visando introduzir o milho como alternativa para rotação de cultura em Gleissolo Háplico Distrófico Típico. O experimento foi conduzido nas safras de 2013/2014 e 2014/2015, na estação experimental do IRGA em Cachoeirinha-RS. Foram testados quatro tratamentos, todos com declividade de 0,08%, ao longo do comprimento das parcelas (79 m) e com três repetições: microcamalhão com irrigação por sulco; microcamalhão sem irrigação; sem microcamalhão com irrigação por lâminas superficiais (banhos); e sem microcamalhão sem irrigação. Foram avaliados alguns indicadores de rendimento do milho e a eficiência do uso da água (EUA) nas diferentes alternativas de manejos. Na safra 2013/2014 os resultados indicam produtividade superiores a 10 t ha-1 para o tratamento irrigado e com microcamalhão. Na safra de 2014/2015 não houve diferença significativa nos tratamentos. O milho utilizado como rotação de cultura com o arroz é tecnicamente viável com uso de irrigação e de uma drenagem eficiente. Palavras-chave: Zea mays; microcamalhão; solos mal drenados. An alternative to introduce crop rotation would be the corn crop, taking advantage of the irrigation structure used for rice. The objective of this study is to evaluate different management of irrigation and drainage aimed to introduce corn as an alternative crop in Gleissolo Háplico Distrófico Típico. The experiment was conducted in 2013/2014 and 2014/2015, in IRGA's experimental station in Cachoeirinha-RS. Four treatments were tested, each with a slope of 0.08% along the length of parcels (79 m) and three replicates: furrow irrigation and small bund; no irrigation and small bund; basin irrigation and no small bund; and irrigation and no small bund. Were evaluated some income component of corn and the water use efficiency (USA) in the different alternatives managements. In 2013/2014 the productivity results indicate higher than 10 t ha-1 for the treatment and irrigated with microcamalhão. In 2014/2015 there was no significant difference in treatments. Corn used as crop rotation with rice is technically feasible with efficient irrigation and drainage management. Keywords: Zea mays; microcamalhão; poorly drained soils.

The lowland soils in Rio Grande do Sul occupy an area of approximately 5.4 million hectares of the state. They are flat to mildly hilly topography soils, developed, under varied conditions of drainage deficiency (hydromorphism). In this ecosystem, the extensive productive livestock system and irrigated rice were developed, used successfully for many decades. However, its characteristics and peculiarities have contributed to the cost of production, disseminate weed seeds in the crops and degrade the physical state of the lowland soils, due to this, the interest arose for the use of new alternatives that were, at the same time, efficient in the control of red rice, economically viable and able to maintain or even recover soil quality. The search for practices capable of increasing the productivity of irrigated rice and, especially, its sustainability over time has been the focus of several studies, so the objective of this review was to present aspects related to crop diversification and conservation management of lowland soils, mainly in relation to rotation and succession practices.

Aims:The aim of this study was to evaluate the best crop succession strategy and nitrogen dose for irrigated watermelon cultivation in the cerrado of Roraima. Experimental Design: The experimental design was a randomized complete block design, Carmo et al.; JEAI, 37(2): 1-12, 2019; Article no.JEAI.49470 2 arranged in a split-plot scheme, with four replications. Place and Duration of Study: Two experiments were conducted (2014/2015 and 2015/2016 growing seasons), with the 'Crimsom Sweet' watermelon cultivar, grown under different N doses in succession to cover crop species, at the experimental field "Água Boa", belonging to Embrapa Roraima, located in the municipality of Boa Vista, state of Roraima, Brazil. Methodology: The three plots consisted of cultivating watermelon in succession to: maize intercropped with pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan), Brachiaria (Urochloa ruziziensis) and control with natural vegetation. The subplots consisted of four doses of nitrogen (0, 75, 150 and 225 kg ha -1 of N) applied in the watermelon culture. The following variables were evaluated: average fruit weight, number of fruits per hectare, number of fruits per hectare with a mass between 5 and 10 kg, number of fruits per hectare with mass greater than 10 kg, productivity, soluble solids content, pH and titratable acidity. Results: The pigeon pea provided an increase in the number of fruits per hectare with mass ≥ 10 kg and in productivity. Nitrogen doses between 118 and 124 kg ha -1 produced the highest number of fruits, number of fruits with mass ≥ 10 kg and higher soluble solids content. Conclusion: Fruit quality was influenced by the year of cultivation, predecessor cover crop species and the N doses. Pigeon pea and U. ruziziensis favor the availability of nitrogen in the soil for the following crop in succession. Original Research Article
