Sustainable Valorization of Animal Manure and Recycled Polyester: Co-pyrolysis Synergy

Abstract: In this study sustainable valorization of cattle manure, recycled polyester, and their blend (1:1 wt.%) were examined by the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) method. Pyrolysis tests were performed at 10, 30, and 50 °C/min heating rate from room temperature to 1000 °C under a nitrogen environment with a flow of 100 cm3/min. Kinetics of decomposition were analyzed by using Flynn–Wall–Ozawa (FWO) method. Based on activation energies and conversion points, a single region was established for recycled polyester whi… Show more

“…Moreover, numerous useful macro-and micronutrients, such as Ca, Mg, Fe, and Zn, were observed to positively correlate with the increase in temperature. Akyürek [13] carried out the pyrolysis tests performed at 10, 30, and 50 • C•min −1 heating rate from room temperature to 1000 • C under a nitrogen environment with a flow of 100 cm 3 •min −1 . Kinetics of decomposition were analyzed using the Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO) method.…”

“…However, biochar can lock high portion of the carbon content of raw biomass in stabilized form in long term and hence contribute carbon-negative economy [16,17]. Biochar production has also considered as a potential waste management strategy for reducing the waste volume and elimination of pathogens especially for livestock manure [18]. In addition, heavy metal content of the biomass feedstock remains within biochar [10].…”

“…Among the renewables, biomass is the only energy source which can deliver electricity, provide heating, cooling and used as fuel in solid, liquid and gaseous forms [1]. Biomass has attracted more attention in recent years as a low risk and capital required renewable energy source [2][3][4][5]. Biomass refers to carbonaceous materials derived from agricultural crops, forestry, agro-industrial and domestic wastes.…”
