Energy Recovery From Animal Manure: Biogas Potential of Burdur, Turkey

Abstract: Sustainable development depends on the availability of energy resources and their impact on environment. Biogas is a carbon neutral renewable energy option and one of the leading solutions to the climate change combat. As Turkey is an energy importer country, using indigenous energy sources is vital to meet future energy demand. Agricultural activities and livestock potential have high contribution to economy in Turkey. Biogas production from organic wastes such as livestock manure in this context, gain more i… Show more

“…Since the interest in biogas potential obtained from animal manure has increased in recent years, biogas potential has been investigated for many provinces in Turkey as well. These provinces and studies are following as; Adana [14,15], Ankara [16], Bitlis [17], Burdur [18], Bursa [19], Elazig [20], Erzincan [21], Hatay [22], Isparta [23], Kahramanmaraş [24], Kayseri [25], Muş [26], Tekirdağ [27], Yozgat [28]. Organic matter which is consisted in animal manure are fermented and digested by microorganisms (bacteria, protozoa and archaea) under anaerobic conditions and produce CH4 in 3 stages.…”

“…The basic principle of these concepts is to apply clean technologies to avoid waste generation, if possible or waste reduction and reuse and recycle in cases where waste generation is inevitable. Especially in industries with high amount of organic waste the energy recovery from waste becomes vital instead of disposal of the waste (Akyurek, 2019a;Hasan et al, 2021;Hadin et al, 2017).…”

“…Türkiye'nin toplam hayvan biyogaz potansiyeli %68 sığır, %5 küçükbaş hayvan ve %27 kümes hayvanlarından gelmektedir (Avcioglu ve Turker, 2012). Türkiye'nin hayvansal atıklardan bölge, yöre ve işletme bazında elde edilebilecek biyogaz miktarı ve enerji potansiyelini belirleyen birçok çalışma yapılmıştır (Eryılmaz vd., 2015;Ilgar, 2016;Özer, 2017;Akyürek, 2019;Yağlı ve Koç, 2019 (Höhn vd., 2014).…”
