With the increased size and complexity of liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects, supply-chain management has become a challenging process due to involvements of the remote location of the project site and the multiple stakeholders. The transparency and traceability of the supply-chain are critical as any surpluses or shortages of materials will put the project at risk. Currently, limited research has been conducted on LNG projects considering the total supply-chain perspective, which refers to all stages of materials tracking in off-site manufacturing, transportation, and site logistics. The purpose of this research is to propose a framework of a coordinated approach for supply-chain tracking in the LNG industry. Two focus group studies were organized to develop the proposed framework: One for LNG construction supply chain process development, and another for alternative tracking technologies selection. In addition, two experiments, namely off-site fabrication tracking and site logistics tracking, were conducted in a field to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed framework. Technology limitations were also discussed in terms of field implementation.

A gestão da cadeia de suprimentos sustentáveis é uma prática crescente entre as organizações que buscam melhorar seu desempenho ambiental. Nesta perspectiva, a Avaliação do Ciclo de Vida (ACV) pode ser empregada para considerar os impactos ambientais e de saúde humana causados em toda dimensão da cadeia de suprimentos. O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar práticas de ACV para a gestão da cadeia de suprimentos sustentáveis. Para isso, foi realizada uma revisão da literatura, identificando artigos para a realização do estudo, buscados pelos termos: “life cycle assessment”, “supply chain management”, “sustainable supply chain management” e “green supply chain management”, em três bases de dados. Usou-se o EndNote® para gerenciar as referências e o Methodi Ordinatio para classificar os principais estudos. Os resultados apresentaram uma visão das práticas de ACV na cadeia de suprimentos, como: auxílio na tomada de decisão para selecionar fornecedores; identificar recursos mais sustentáveis; modelar a cadeia de suprimentos conforme anseios sustentáveis; determinar as demandas de energia das cadeias de suprimentos; promover um produção mais limpa; avaliar os impactos ambientais de cada elo da cadeia: como a pegada de carbono e a pegada da água; promover avaliação das emissões de gases de efeito estufa (GEE).

This paper deals with the optimization of a manufacturing-remanufacturing-transportwarehousing closed-loop supply chain, which is composed of two machines for manufacturing and remanufacturing, manufacturing stock, purchasing warehouse, transport vehicle and recovery inventory. The proposed system takes into account the return of used end-of-life products from the market. Manufactured and re-manufactured products are stored in the manufacturing stock. The used end-of-life products are stored in the recovery inventory for remanufacturing. The vehicle transports products from the manufacturing stock to the purchasing warehouse. The objective of this work is to simultaneously evaluate the optimal capacities of manufacturing stock, purchasing warehouse and the vehicle, as well as the optimal value of returned used end-of-life products. Those four decision variables minimize the total cost function. A discrete flow model, which is supposed to be the most realistic, is used to describe the system. An optimization program, based on a genetic algorithm, is developed to find the decision variables. Numerical results are presented to study the influence of transportation time, unit remanufacturing cost and configuration of the manufacturing/remanufacturing machines on the decision variables.
