The oil palm independent smallholder (farmer) is one of the important actors in maintaining the continuity of the production cycle in the oil palm agro-industry supply chain in Indonesia. Various fundamental problems faced by the independent smallholder are related to land legality as well as their limited ability to manage good agricultural practices, access funds and information on current prices, and use of quality and agricultural production facilities. The institutional strengthening of the independent smallholder requires attention and support from government and other business actors in the supply chain of the oil palm agro-industry. This study aims to obtain a model of institutional strengthening through the application of the enrich seven steps of soft system methodology. The assumptions that must be fulfilled in strengthening this institution were described. The institutional strengthening model was developed in three stages, i.e., the establishment of smallholder corporations, the establishment of independent cooperatives, and the revitalization of the Indonesian oil palm independent smallholder association. Various individual strengthening actors were investigated and then integrated. The suggested institutional strengthening model involved cooperatives, smallholder farmers groups, and the oil palm mill, supported by regulatory, financial, and input provider agencies with a mutual partnership program.

Jakarta is one of the cities in Indonesia with public transport services that have not been optimal. The quality index of public transport in Jakarta is only 18%, far lower than the average quality index of public transport in Indonesia which reaches 38.67%. Until 2016, the number of public transport users in Jakarta was only 24%, while ideally the number of public transport users was 60%. This shows the low interest of the people of Jakarta to use public transportation. One of the public transportation is Transjakarta Bus, where since 2011, the number of Transjakarta Bus passengers tends to be stagnant. This study aims to identify the actual problems experienced by Transjakarta Corridor Bus passengers using Soft Systems Methodology and then simulate using Agent Based Models. The use of Soft Systems Methodology produces nine model activities that can be carried out by PT. Jakarta Transportation to improve the Corridor 8 Transjakarta Bus system, so as to increase the number of passengers. The use of simulations with an agent based model shows that increasing speed and BRT scores can increase the number of passengers, but the increase in the number of passengers on the Transjakarta Bus will be more optimal if supported by a reduction in headway and the percentage of single buses. Increased passengers can occur as much as 6.83 to 44.38%.

Triple Bottom Line Analysis and Assessment Towards Sustainable Palm Oil Plantation

Palm oil agroindustry face challenge in business process sustainability. Most of the research consider all stage of business in sustainability analysis moreover less of consideration in upstream parts. This research aims to analyzes the palm oil plantation sustainability performance to provide recommendation in achieving sustainability goals for upstream business parts. This research was conducted in two most productive location in producing palm oil in the world: Sumatera and Kalimantan, Indonesia. A multi-dimensional scaling with leverage analysis were applied to assess the palm oil plantation sustainability performance and provide potential improvement recommendation. The result show that the model had successfully to analyze the sustainability performance on triple bottom line dimensions: economic, social and environment. Twenty-one indicators were assessed and found location sustainability performance on palm oil plantation. Leverage analysis provide recommendation to improve the performance, including CPO quantity loss, CPO quality loss, workers personal rights condition, corporate social responsibility, soil condition and water management.
