Eight University Grant Committee (UGC)-funded public universities in Hong Kong positively and successfully responded to the global call for sustainability efforts in higher education institutions (HEIs). Various initiatives are transpiring within these eight campuses. The Hong Kong Sustainable Campus Consortium (HKSCC) was co-established by eight UGC-funded universities, which is an excellent example of integrating resources and efforts to achieve sustainable development goals and exert positive social impacts. Through interviews with HKSCC administrators and members and reviewing relevant documents, this study aims to examine the roles and challenges of HKSCC toward Hong Kong HEIs’ sustainability efforts, and present the good practices and achievements of HKSCC. Findings of this study reveal that although HKSCC and each UGC-funded university contribute in reaching the sustainability goals, they should pay considerable attention to the external impact of sustainability practices on communities and society. Moreover, we propose that the sustainable development of public universities in Hong Kong should look beyond the narrowed definition of sustainable development and broaden their roles to exert a social impact by addressing the negative consequences of the massification, privatization, and internationalization of higher education.

Finansal raporlar kullanılarak sunulan finansal bilgilerin yetersiz kalmasıyla, mevcut ve potansiyel yatırımcıların istek ve talepleri doğrultusunda finansal tablolarda önemli değişiklikler olmuş, fakat bu değişimler yatırımcıların beklentilerini tam anlamıyla karşılamamıştır. Yatırımcılar finansal bilgiler ile beraber işletmelerin hangi faaliyetleri gerçekleştirerek bu performansı gösterdiklerine ilişkin bilgilere, çevresel, sosyal ve yönetimsel açılardan da işletmelerin kararları, onları uygulama biçimleri ve stratejileri hakkında bilgi sahibi olmayı istemektedirler. Kurumsal yönetim anlayışının yaygınlaşmasıyla, işletmelerin finansal performansının yanında, finansal olmayan performansının da önem kazandığı ve yatırım kararları üzerinde etkili olduğu bir döneme geçilmeye başlanmıştır. İşletmelerin performansının tam ve eksiksiz değerlendirilebilmesi için finansal raporlara ilave olarak finansal olmayan raporlara da gereksinim duyulmaktadır. Bu çalışmada kurumsal raporlama, sürdürülebilirlik ve sürdürülebilir kalkınma terimlerine açıklık getirilip kurumsal sürdürülebilirlik, sürdürülebilirlik raporları ve Küresel Raporlama Girişimi (GRI) vurgulanarak, finansal ve finansal olmayan bilginin yer aldığı yeni bir raporlama türü olan entegre raporlamanın tanımı yapılmış ve kısaca dünya ve Türkiye'deki tarihsel gelişimine yer verilmiştir.

This study approaches the fresh perspective of non-financial reporting (NFR) promoted through the Directive 2014/95/EU (EUD) by providing a state of knowledge, initiatives and approaches on this topic and also by identifying the main patterns developed within this research stream. Based on a structured literature review and statistical methods as Principal Component and cluster analysis, it investigates the progress of scientific research and design undertaken within NFR topic and discloses insights and critical issues for future research agenda. The results reveal the focus of the literature on general issues related to EUD, as well as throughout its specific requirements, using GRI or other national/international frameworks. From a methodological point of view, even though empirical studies prevailed, there are also conceptual studies that analyse the new EUD either on sampled countries or across Europe.
