“…In order to overcome this problem and to correct the resighting probabilities, we used resightings of tagged animals recorded between two subsequent sighting occasions to yield an independent estimate of the probability of reading a tag. We believe that the small resighting probabilities reported by Focardi et al (2008) were partly due to the occurrence of unread tagged animals. Considering all these issues, we were sufficiently confident to have met the assumptions of CMR, providing an appropriate comparison between independent survey methods.…”
