Survey on skin aging status and related influential factors in Southeast China

Abstract: Abstract:Objective: To investigate cutaneous aging patterns of residents in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, and their contributing factors. Methods: Eight hundred and forty-eight Hangzhou residents received the survey between March 2004 and September 2004. Results: Facial wrinkling first occurred at 21 years of age and skin elasticity began to lose at 22 years of age. In middle-aged and old people, facial wrinkling and looseness escalated with the increase of ultraviolet (UV)-exposure time, indicating the accelerat… Show more

“…Once oxidative stress has been suggested to play a role in ultraviolet (UVA) damage mediated melanogenesis and reduction on skin elasticity, through promoting oxidative stress, which occurs as the result of increased formation of oxidants and/or reactive nitrogen species (RNS) including nitric oxide (NO), this effect of improvement on skin color and appearance of pores could be related to the active antioxidant substances associated in the multifunctional studied formulation [26,27,28,29,30].…”

“…Wang et al (2009) carried out a study about skin aging and related influential factors in Southeast China which showed that the incidence of seborrheic keratosis increases with increasing the duration of exposure to sun light and in correlation with skin phototype. They stated that the incidence of seborrheic keratosis was higher among patients with skin phototype II than those with skin phototype III and IV, and in correlation with age, they reported higher incidence of seborrheic keratosis in older age.…”

“…These results were in agreement with the results observed by others. 2,7 Wang et al (2009) 12 carried out a study about skin aging and related influential factors in Southeast China which showed that the incidence of seborrheic keratosis increases with increasing the duration of exposure to sun light and in correlation with skin phototype.…”

“…Although histological detection of dermal elastosis in skin tissue samples is considered the ‘gold standard’ in diagnosing photoaging, clinical diagnosis with noninvasive techniques is clearly preferable. The easiest and most popular technique is highly subjective: counting or scoring of visible wrinkles and other changes [6,7,8,9]; objective techniques include measurement of skin extensibility [10] and assessment of skin topography using silicone impressions [11,12]. Few investigators have examined factors associated with any of these photoaging measurements however.…”
