“…The entire operation could be completed in the vitreous cavity in cases of soft nuclei, but intracapsular limbal extraction was necessary for hard nuclei. Peyman et al 3 20 in 1981 reported the first series of patients with ectopia lentis managed with pars plana lensectomy, demonstrating good visual results and few complications. Girard et al 12 in 1990 described pars plana lensectomy by ultrasonic fragmentation for hard ectopic lenses in adults.…”

“…Lensectomy through the pars plana or pars plicata has few complications (Peyman et al 1979). It is now possible both with aspiration technique and aspiration cutting technique (Peyman et al 1979;Seetner & Crawford 1981) to operate on such eyes with good results and few complications. With modern instrumentation and surgical technique combined with a careful pre-and post-operative fundus examination and the necessary prophylactic treatment, the risk factors are now under control.…”

“…In a pyridoxineresponsive patient general anasthesia is not hazardous under the condition of normal platelet function with use of the vitamin. The aspiration technique (Barraquer 1972;Okuda et al 1981) or pars plana approach (Peyman et al 1979;Seetner & Crawford 1981) is advocated to treat the subluxated lens to reduce complications.…”
