Surface Tension and Density of Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether–Water Mixtures from 277.15 to 308.15 K

Abstract: ethylene glycol monobutyl ether−water mixtures were measured. Experimental surface tension vs concentration data was described utilizing the Volmer surface equation of state, coupled with the Gibbs adsorption isotherm, which provides two nonempirical fitted parameters: the activity coefficient at infinite dilution of the bulk and the two-dimensional virial coefficient. Density experimental data shows negative excess volume deviations through all composition range, with abnormal behavior around 0.02 in mole fra… Show more

“…Meanwhile, in the presence of pure BG, the surface tension was measured as 30.2 mN/m. This value is close to the results of previous studies by Smallwood [44] and Velasco-Medina and Gracia-Fadrique [45] (27.4-27.7 mN/m at 20 °C).…”

“…The Butoxyethanol is one of the smallest surfactants, and it is a very common solvent used in many domestic and industrial products. Therefore it has attracted attention as a compound to which people can be exposed to [18][19][20][21]. Butoxyethanol is usually produced by the ethoxylation reaction of butanol with ethylene oxide.…”

“…Micellization and self-assembly, which are natural and spontaneous processes, occur primarily owing to noncovalent interactions . Surfactants are an amphiphilic molecule containing a hydrophobic tail and a hydrophilic head group . Surfactants have attracted great interest because of their properties associated with suspension, efficient solubilization, transport, and dispersion .…”

“…1 Surfactants are an amphiphilic molecule containing a hydrophobic tail and a hydrophilic head group. 2 Surfactants have attracted great interest because of their properties associated with suspension, efficient solubilization, transport, and dispersion. 3 In an aqueous solution, above their critical micelle concentration (cmc), some kind of selforganizing molecular assembly can be formed from surfactants.…”
