Surface Roughness Evaluation of Weft Knitted Fabric by Using a Textile Surface Tester

Abstract: A Textile Surface Tester was used in this study to measure the surface roughness of weft knitted fabric. The aim of this work is to examine the influence of fabric parameters and test conditions on the sample's surface roughness. In this investigation, tests were carried out on single jersey knitted fabric for outwear. The measurement was carried out via an inductive sensor for displacement which produces signal in relation to the sample relives. We applied decomposition via the Fourier and the wavelet transfo… Show more

“…To study the influence of different cloth parameters of roughness, a new test bench was developed. This study examined the roughness of woven fabric with different compositions and weft counts, and used three textile fibers (100% cotton, 50/50 cotton/polyester blend, 100% polyester) with three weft counts (11,17,22). The cloth was coated with two substances of printing (dispersive and reactive) with different emport rates from 40 to 140% and dried at ambient temperature (25°C) and at industrial process (110°C) for 2 minutes.…”

“…parameters and chemical treatments on the variation in its surface roughness. The Textile Surface Tester TST (Figure1) developed byMaâtoug et al (2008) andMaâtoug et al (2011b) was used in all the experiments. This test bench measurement was based on the principle of metallic surface roughness evaluation, and must satisfy a principle function (PF) and five complementary functions (CF).…”

“…The radial extension of the prosthetic tubes was monitored by using the patented TST measuring chain 38 originally dedicated to evaluate the surface roughness parameters of textile fabrics. 39 At the test beginning, an inductive sensor with mobile magnetic core is put in contact with the midpoint of the specimen wall upper boundary ( Figure 4) and the pulsatile inflation of the conduit animates the sensor feeler in vertical vibrations.…”
