Surface immunoglobulins and receptor sites for aggregated IgG on leukemic reticuloendotheliosis cells

Abstract: On blood lymph nodes and spleen cells of 4 patients with leukemic reticuloendotheliosis (LR) the binding of 125-J-labelled IgG aggregates as well as binding of 125J-labeled anti immunoglobulin sera was studied. Moreover the capacity to form spontaneous rosettes with sheep red blood cells to bind immune complement complexes as well as the proliferative response in the presence of PHA were investigated. On the surface of hairy cells a variety of immunoglobulins were demonstrable. IgG of both types was found to b… Show more

“…The presence of IgD and IgM on the cells before and after overnight culture strongly indicates a R lymphocyte origin of the hairy cell. IgG was most probably adsorbed onto the Fc receptors, since overnight culture effectively removed I g G ( 11,15). The presence of albumin on hairy cells has previously been demonstrated by Huber et al (15) and is very likely due to non-specific sticking to the villous surface of the hairy cells,…”

“…On the other hand, the detection of immunoglobulins on the hairy cells and the demonstration of in vitro synthesis of immunoglobulins strongly suggest that the cells are of B lymphocyte origin (8). Receptors for the Fc portion of IgG have been demonstrated on most hairy cells (15,16) whereas receptors for C3 have only been detected in a few cases (13). By the use of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the hairy cells have been characterized as very similar to B lymphocytes ( 2 3 ) , monocytes ( 1 2 ) , or hybrid in nature with features of both lymphocytes and monocytes ( 2 1 ) ,…”

Hier ist die Dichteverteilung einer Milzbiopsie eines lymphoblastischen Non-HodgkinLymphoms mit der Dichteverteilung der mononukleären Blutzellen desselben Patienten verglichen.…”

“…75-90% of the blood lymphocytes from 16 patients with CLL, both patients with centrocytic lym phoma and from the patient with lymphoplasmacytoid lymphoma were classified as B cells [W. A ugener, unpubl. data, 1975], whereas more than 50% of the lympho cytes from 2 patients with CLL (after development of partial remission under therapy with prednisone) and from both patients with HCL were T cells.…”
