Suppression and enhancement of coexisting super-fluorescence and multi-wave mixing processes in sodium vapor

Abstract: Different aspects of the properties of the coexisting super-fluorescence (SFL), multi-wave mixing with the fluorescence signal in the sodium vapor are studied both theoretically and experimentally. First, by scanning the dressed-state, the properties of these coexisting processes, such as the SFL signal modulated by using the dark and bright states, the interplay between dressed-states, are observed for the first time. Then, by scanning the probe field, the interplay between the one-photon and two-photon proce… Show more

“…To make a comparison, we display the static reflection and transmission signals versus Δ 3 and L. First, when the E 2 laser beam is blocked, according to the expressions of R s and T s in Eqs. (6) and 7, we can obtain the SWM BGS, PTS, and PBG structure as shown in Figs. 6(a1)-6(d1).…”

“…Over the past few decades, a lot of attention has been paid to the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) [1,2] in atoms. The nonlinear optical effect, four-wave mixing (FWM) [3], which can be enhanced or suppressed [4][5][6] in an EIT medium, is well known. The electromagnetically induced grating (EIG) [7,8,9] that results from two counterpropagating coupling fields [10,11] is reported in a variety of interesting research results [12][13][14].…”

“…In order to explain the SP-FWM signals specifically, the two weak fields E as and E s are evolved into the Hamiltonian system when they propagate in the nonlinear medium. The measured intensities of output signals are proportional to the photon numbers, which are given by [24] hN s i Ω − 1m∕n;…”

“…It is well-known that the six-wave mixing (SWM) is a nonlinear optical effect generated by lights with different frequencies and different quantum properties. In the nonlinear wave-mixing process, atomic coherence of the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) plays a critical role has been demonstrated experimentally and theoretically in recent researches [4][5][6][7][8][9]. Furthermore, the increasingly effect has been paid on the switch between EIT and electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) [3,10].…”
