Suppressing activity of staurosporine from Streptomyces sp. MJM4426 against rice bacterial blight disease

Abstract: This is the first report that staurosporine can protect rice leaf against bacterial blight disease and showed the potential of Streptomyces sp. MJM4426 as an alternative to chemical bactericide for bacterial blight disease in rice.

“…AM‐2282 (the originally described staurosporine producer, now Lentzea albida AM‐2282) has been reported after 72 hr cultivation in a medium containing glucose 3%, soybean meal 1.5%, and CaCO 3 0.4% for 72 hr (Omura et al, ). Several other species of Streptomyces have been reported to produce staurosporine and its derivatives with comparable or lower titers (Cheng et al, ; Li et al, ; Onaka, Taniguchi, Igarashi, & Furumai, ; Park et al, ; Zhou, Qin, Ding, & Ma, ). Staurosporine has also been isolated from the marine ascidian Cystodytes solitus (Reyes et al, ).…”

“…Streptomyces sp. MJM4426 can protect rice leaf explants from the infection of Xoo by producing staurosporine (Cheng et al, 2016). Streptomyces toxytricini VN08-A-12 was found, not only able to reduce the length of Xoo lesion in the two rice cultivars (the reduction of lesion length was up to 38.3%), but also significantly reduced the loss of Xoo-related yield in infected rice cultivars from the field (yield loss reduction of up to 43.2%) (Van Hop et al, 2014).…”
