Supporting Nested NEMO networks with the Unified MANEMO Architecture

Abstract: The NEMO Basic Support protocol is a Home Agent based technique (derived from Mobile IPv6) that permits the mobility of a network of IPv6 devices to be supported through the use of a dedicated Mobile Router. This NEMO Mobile Router accepts connections from IPv6 nodes and transparently manages any IP mobility on their behalf, which means that as well as individual hosts, a NEMO Mobile Router can also accept connections from other NEMO mobile networks. When this occurs, the inter-connected NEMO mobile networks f… Show more

“…In [11], the OLSRMANET routing protocol is adopted for enabling local routing among MRs of a nested network. In [12], the Tree Discovery (TD) [13] protocol is used for the formation of a tree topology among the MRs. For the establishment of local routing, the Network In Node Advertisement (NINA) [14] protocol is adopted. The Top Level MR performs the role of a gateway which is the only entity maintains the NEMO tunnel for the entire nested network.…”

“…This includes the Pinball Routing problem discussed earlier. The Unified MANEMO Architecture (UMA) [4] provides a comprehensive MANEMO-based solution. It defines two different models, the NEMO-Centric MANEMO (NCM) model, addressing the Nested mobility issues, and the MANET-Centric MANEMO (MCM) model, addressing mobility support for MANET networks.…”

“…It enables a network-based selection as described in the previous section under sub-section D. For criteria rating, a numerical scale of [1][2][3][4][5] is adapted to apply the relevant importance to each of the criteria of interest according to a static policy. Calculating the criteria weights based on the rating data was implemented using the pairwise comparison method.…”

“…To experimentally enable gateway selection functionality, we developed a simple selection algorithm. For criteria rating, a numerical scale of [1][2][3][4][5] is adapted to apply the relevant importance to each of the criteria of interest according to a static policy. Calculating the criteria weights based on the rating data was implemented using the Pairwise Comparison method.…”
