The problem to select a supplier has taken the best supplier according to all combinations of sorting criteria. With regard to the supplier selection problem, the priority ranking of the criteria taken into consideration to solve this problem has a direct impact on the determination of the "optimum" supplier. This paper provides a case study made for the supplier selection problem involving all possible rankings in cable transfer pulleys used in rolling products by a company X which is active in a steel cable industry in Kayseri, Turkey. NG's model is used in the solution stage in the application. In this research, a new type of supplier selection problem called long-term supplier selection problem with a case study is proposed. Finally, solution of long-term supplier selection problem by a new approach is presented. According to the values obtained by scoring, it has been determined that a long-term agreement can be concluded with the supplier no. 4 (S4) and a long or medium-term agreement can be made with supplier no. 2 (S2). S1, S3 and S5 are determined as the suppliers with the worst performances. As a result, it has been shown to the company that working with S1, S3 and S5 suppliers will not generate any benefits.

The paper focuses on the issue of choice of suppliers in the market environment. It discusses expert systems as modern methods of its computer support. The issue of supplier choice is presented and viewpoints for the formulation of the decision-making task introduced. The piece of writing furthermore pinpoints the expert character of the solution of this task, making use of the knowledge of experienced professionals. It introduces the principles of fuzzy oriented expert systems as a suitable solution of the task at hand. Language models of the expert systems formalise the high quality mental models of an experienced expert. The global decision-making task is split into partial tasks; the expert modules for their formalisation are integrated into the hierarchic structure. The paper presents the structures of language models and the implementation of the structure of expert systems in the MATLAB-Simulink program environment. Special attention is paid to the issue of supplier fl exibility. The effi ciency of the decision-making system is proven by the solution of a simulation exercise which represents the classifi cation of two current and two newly contemplated suppliers with various characteristics. The results are analysed and commented on.

Supplier selection is a critical decision process in a company. Since, gaining a competitive advantage is a great challenge in today's economy; firms need a well-managed supply chain to compete in these circumstances. Supply chain is an integrated system in which individual companies perform interdependent activities. Therefore, the success of a supply chain is highly dependent on establishing a longer-term working relationship among members of the supply chain community. Supplier selection process is a multi-criteria problem which includes different attributes such as quality, delivery, price, supply variety, distance etc. In our study, we consider two major criteria price and quality together with using incapability index Cpp and price advantage chart in order to evaluate supplier performance. In this paper a case study of the pharmaceutical industry is illustrated. The results obtained in this study show that capability and price advantage chart is useful to the practitioners in choosing the best supplier.
