Supercritical CO 2 extraction and quality comparison of lipids from Yellowtail fish ( Seriola quinqueradiata ) waste in different conditions

Abstract: Every year, a large amount of by-products produced by fish processing industries is discarded or used for less profitable purposes. In this study, we will describe a technique for producing high-quality, edible oil from the viscera of yellowtail fish (Seriola quinqueradiata) which can be served as a source of omega polyunsaturated fatty acids. Yellowtail fish viscera oil was extracted using supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO 2) extraction and Soxhlet apparatus. SC-CO 2 extraction was carried out in a semi-bat… Show more

“…The values of TOTOX and TBARS ( Table 5 ) in RVO produced from CVO extracted at 60 °C were lower than those observed by the same authors [ 25 ]. The results of this study for the PV, ρ-AV, and TOTOX contents of RVO at 60 °C were comparable to the values observed by Franklin et al [ 58 ] in oil extracted from yellowtail fish waste by supercritical CO 2 extraction [ 58 ].…”

“…More importantly, anchovy contains eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in amount as high as in dark muscle fishes. EPA and DHA are essential fatty acids that are not synthesized in the body but are effective in preventing blood circulation diseases and alleviating inflammatory diseases (Franklin et al., 2020; Park et al., 2019; Roy et al., 2020). Recently, EPA and DHA have attracted attention as functional ingredients that may have an effect of improving brain function, including learning ability (Haq & Chun, 2018).…”
