Supercontinuum generation from deep-UV to mid-IR in a noble gas-filled fiber pumped with ultrashort mid-IR pulses

Abstract: We experimentally demonstrate record multi-octave supercontinuum (SC) generation spanning from 200 up to 4000 nm using a single Ar-filled hollow-core anti-resonant fiber pumped in the mid-IR region for the first time.

“…[13][14][15][16] In HC-PBG fibers, over than 99% of the power in the optical mode is confined within the hollow core. This gives the provision of ultralow (a tunable) optical nonlinearity, excellent power handling capabilities, low latency, and even offers the prospect of ultralow losses, both at conventional wavelengths (e.g., around 1550 nm) and at longer wavelengths into the mid-IR where solid core silica fibers fail 17 . Above all, the possibility of light-matter interaction within the core of these fibers (both HC-PBG and antiresonant) is of great importance for gas sensing applications.…”

“…A balanced detection scheme does not require additional fiber chip coupling when being implemented in the design. As shown in figure 7, the laser light can be split already on chip, before going to the interaction cell, which is a hollow core fiber in the figure, but could also be a fibercoupled gas cell [40][41][42]. Chip-based balanced photodetectors have already been demonstrated [43,44].…”

“…While not on-chip integrated gas cells, fiber based solutions can provide some of the benefits of integration [42,51]. Fibers can be coiled to extend the propagation length in a given volume.…”

“…However, since the absorption of glucose has similar characteristics to that of other bio-analytes (like water and cholesterol), the monochromatic based monitoring techniques have limited sensitivity [12][13][14][15][16] . SC lasers offer an attractive all-fiber alternative to generate broadband emission from ultra violet (UV) to mid infrared region (MIR) of electromagnetic spectrum [17][18][19] . For this goal, we present a method to accurately measure glucose concentrations in vitro using an SC-based MSPAS system.…”
