Superconductivity and ferromagnetism in hole-dopedRbEuFe4As4

Abstract: We discover a robust coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism in an iron arsenide RbEuFe4As4. The new material crystallizes in an intergrowth structure of RbFe2As2 and EuFe2As2, such that the Eu sublattice turns out to be primitive instead of being body-centered in EuFe2As2. The FeAs layers, featured by asymmetric As coordinations, are hole doped due to charge homogenization. Our combined measurements of electrical transport, magnetization and heat capacity unambiguously and consistently indicate bu… Show more

“…At the present stage, however, the narrowness of the discovered DMS phase and the sharpness of the DMS/DVS transition would complicate the use of such hybrids. The search for novel FM superconductors ( 31 ) is therefore urgently required.…”

“…Unlike other Fe-based superconductors, A e AFe 4 As 4 does not show any structural phase transition below room temperature [8]. However, Eu-containing A e AFe 4 As 4 show a magnetic transition at ≈ 15 K [9,10]. Along with high T c values, the A e AFe 4 As 4 family also show a very high upper critical field (≈ 92 T for CaKFe 4 As 4 ) [11], similar to the optimally doped (Ba,K)Fe 2 As 2 [12] which is well above the Pauli paramagnetic limit H p (0) = 1.86 * T c for weak-coupling BCS superconductors.…”

“…Such an asymmetric Fe coordination was first observed in the 1144-type superconductors 12,13 (but these FeSCs still contain infinite Fe 2 As 2 layers). In FeSCs, the height of As from the Fe plane and the As−Fe−As bond angle (α) are considered to be the two relevant structural parameters that determine T c .…”
