Sun Simulators: Development of an Innovative Low Cost Film Filter

Abstract: Sun simulators are employed to test the performance of photovoltaic (PV) devices, according to the standard International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61215. Economical and technical analysis show that PV manufacturers need to integrate Sun simulators in the production process and, in particular, at the end of the production chain in order to measure the I-V curve and to evaluate the peak power of PV devices. Sun simulators need specific lamps to simulate the solar spectrum and a specific filter to simula… Show more

“…The proposed study agrees with the results obtained by (Plyta, 2015) with a small deviation in simulation parameters which are total number of LEDs, optimization parameters and interval used. The results obtained here were better than the results obtained by (Watjanatepin, 2017), (Bliss et al, 2009) and (Presciutti et al, 2014). In the proposed method the simulator is classified as class A while the previous studies achieved are class B, C and C.…”

“…The overall class of solar simulator is B. In (Bliss et al, 2009) and (Presciutti et al, 2014) the class achieved is C. Plyta, (2015) designed a solar simulator based on light emitting diode with different combination which are 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30 and 32, in each case spectral ratio is0.18, 0.18, 0.18, 0.18, 0.18, 0.19, 0.21 and 0.27 respectively with interval 20 nm and class AAA was achieved. In the present study spectral ratio achieved in the tested three cases are 0.0549, 0.0609 and 0.024 respectively with an interval of 1 nm.…”

“…This way, all of the emitted photons fall within the excitation band of the catalyst. Meanwhile, when using a xenon lamp as a light source , , the number of photons that have enough energy for the excitation only account for a small part of the total emitted photons . This may justify the dramatically lower PSTY values of the state‐of‐the‐art.…”

“…The normal double-pane window with clear glasses was investigated in this paper. More innovative materials should be considered in the further research, such as the monolithic aerogel glazed window [43], photovoltaic systems [46] and so on.…”
