Sulfide Capacities in the Al2O3–CaO–MgO–SiO2 System

Abstract: In the present study, the sulfide capacities of the slags in the ternary Al 2 O 3 -CaO-SiO 2 system at 1873 K, and in the quaternary system Al 2 O 3 -CaO-MgO-SiO 2 at 1823 and 1873 K are experimentally measured using copper-slag equilibrium at controlled oxygen partial pressure. The experimental data, which has been unavailable, are needed for the improvement of a sulfide capacity model. An assessment of the available data for sulfide capacities in the Al 2 O 3 -CaO-MgO-SiO 2 system and its sub lower-order sys… Show more

“…Table 3 gives an overview of the models for log(C S ) . The KTH model [39] is excluded from this list, because it gave an opposite trend when changing the MgO content. Also the model of Taniguchi et al [40] is excluded, because it is developed for a steel slag composition range, which made it too sensitive for MgO values above 10 wt-%, making it not valid for the HMD slag range.…”

“…Previous reports primarily focused on slag of the BF ironmaking process [3,6,8,9,[12][13][14][15][16][17]. Compared with blast furnace slag, the smelting reduction represented by HIsmelt has a very high FeO content, up to 8wt-%∼10 wt-%.…”
