The desert rose (Adenium obesum) has been highlighted in the internal market, however there are not many studies related to its demands regarding its nutrition and substrates. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different fertilizations and its interactions with different substrates in the initial growth of the desert rose. The seedlings of desert rose with 60 days have been potted transplanted with a capacity of 0.415 L, filled with two kinds of substrates: sand + coconut fiber and sand + composted pine powder. Four different fertilization managements have been done: without fertilization, application of the Hoagland & Arnon nutrient solution; application of NH3 NO4 at 590 g L-1 of nitrogen (N); and the application of the Hoagland & Arnon nutrient solution modified through the addition of NH3 NO4 , increasing the concentration of N to 800 g L-1. The solutions have been applied biweekly adding 50 mL per pot. The experiment has been entirely randomized in a 2x4 factorial design, with 10 repetitions. After 150 days from the beginning of the fertilizations the phytometrical parameters evaluated were: height of the shoot; diameter of the basal caudex; number of shoots; dry mass of the roots, caudex and leaves; and determination of the levels and accumulation of macronutrients in the shoot, and the pH and electrical conductivity of the substrates. The evaluated data have been submitted to an analysis of variance and the Tukey test compared through the test at 5% of error probability. For all the evaluated parameters, when the composted pine mixture was used, the seedlings showed a higher development compared to coconut fiber mixture. The seedlings had a better performance with the modified Hoagland solution for height, number of shoots, caudex diameter and leaf dry mass in both substrates. The use of the sand + pine powder (1:1 v v-1) and the fertilization with Hoagland & Arnon solution combined with the NH3 NO4 solution provided a better initial growth on the desert rose.

Email: cocco.pablo@hotmail.com 1 RESUMO O manejo da irrigação no cultivo de flores é relevante, especialmente em ambiente protegido, onde a produção depende exclusivamente da água da irrigação. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar, técnica e economicamente, o efeito da irrigação na produção da gérbera de corte em ambiente protegido. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos, sendo 120%, 100%; 80%; 60% e 40% da capacidade de retenção do vaso, e dez repetições. Foram avaliados os componentes de produção da gérbera de corte, além da máxima eficiência técnica (MET), a partir dos resultados de produção de hastes e a máxima eficiência econômica (MEE), a partir da equação que corresponde à lâmina ótima que maximizou a receita, considerando os fatores de preço de água e preço de produto (hastes). Os resultados mostraram que a disponibilidade hídrica de 80% e 100% é necessária para produzir hastes longas e firmes, o que reflete diretamente na qualidade do produto final. A MET para a produção de gérbera foi observada para a lâmina de 79,3% da capacidade de retenção de vaso e a lâmina de MEE foi de 70,6 mm. The objective of this work was to determine technically and economically the effect of irrigation on the production of cut gerbera in a protected environment. The experimental design was completely randomized, with five treatments, being 120%, 100%; 80%; 60% and 40% of vessel retention capacity, and ten replicates. Gerbera can be grown as a cut flower or in pots. However, there is little information on nutrition and fertilization, especially related to phosphorus and the use of organic matter in pots. This study aimed to evaluate the growth and production of potted gerbera under doses of phosphorus and the use of cattle manure. The experiment was carried out in pots, under greenhouse conditions. A randomized block experimental design was used in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme with 4 replications, totaling 40 experimental units. The treatments consisted of 5 P rates: 0, 20, 40, 60 and 80 mg dm -3 P, as triple superphosphate powder and use, or not, of cattle manure. Phosphate fertilization and cattle manure in soil with low P contents did not influence the growth and production of potted gerbera. Phosphorus rates improve the nutritional status of potted gerbera, but do not contribute to the commercial quality of the plants. The use of cattle manure increases the availability of phosphorus in the soil for potted gerbera cultivation without, however, contributing to commercial quality. Potted gerbera is poorly responsive to phosphorus addition, supplied by both mineral and organic fertilizers. Keywords: Gerbera jamesoni, phosphorus, organic manure, nutrients. RESUMO Doses de fósforo e uso de esterco bovino no cultivo de gérbera de vasoA gérbera pode ser cultivada como flor de corte ou em vasos, porém há poucas informações sobre nutrição e adubação, especialmente relacionadas ao fósforo e uso de resíduos orgânicos em vasos. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o crescimento e a produção de gérbera em vaso sob doses de fósforo e uso de esterco bovino. O experimento foi conduzido em vasos, em casa de vegetação. Foi empregado delineamento experimental em blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 5 x 2 e 4 repetições totalizando 40 unidades experimentais. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por 5 doses de P: 0, 20, 40, 60 e 80 mg dm -3 de P, na forma de superfosfato triplo em pó e uso ou não de esterco bovino. A adubação fosfatada e o esterco bovino, em solo com baixo teor de P, não influencia o crescimento e a produção de gérbera de vaso. As doses de fósforo proporcionam melhorias no estado nutricional da gérbera cultivada em vaso, mas não contribuem para a qualidade comercial das plantas. O uso de esterco bovino aumenta a disponibilidade de fósforo no solo para cultivo de gérbera em vaso, sem, contudo contribuir para a qualidade comercial. A gérbera cultivada em vaso é pouco responsiva às adições de fósforo, fornecido tanto por fertilizante mineral como orgânico.
