Subcuticular Closure versus Dermabond: A Prospective Randomized Trial

Abstract: 2-Octylcyanoacrylate tissue adhesive (Dermabond™, Ethicon, Inc, Somerville, NJ) is being used successfully for closure of minor lacerations. To date, however, there have been no studies evaluating its use in the operating room for surgical incisions. We conducted a prospective randomized trial to compare the closure of inguinal herniorrhaphy incisions using 2-octylcyanoacrylate tissue adhesive (Dermabond) with closures using 4–0 Monocryl (Ethicon, Inc) in a running subcuticular closure. A total of 46 incisions… Show more

“…The main finding of episiotomy being the strongest predictor for postponed coital resumption in multivariate analyses is of great value whatever way this information was collected. 15 For the respondents, the resumption question will be a retrospective question at any given time interval, unless participants are to be encouraged to give notice at the time, they actually resume coitus, which is unlikely to be feasible.…”

“…Hightension wounds have a higher dehiscence rate when repaired with glue than with sutures. 96,97 Surgical tapes have the lowest tensile strength of any wound closure aid and therefore the highest rate of dehiscence. 98 In low-tension wounds, results are comparable to the use of tissue adhesives alone.…”
