Subcutaneous immunotherapy with depigmented-polymerized allergen extracts: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: Background Double-blind, placebo-controlled trials (DBPCTs) have confirmed the efficacy of allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) with depigmented-polymerized allergen extracts (DPAEs). This systematic review evaluates the efficacy of AIT using different allergens in different severity stages of rhinoconjunctivitis with or without asthma in the pollen studies and asthma and rhinitis in the house dust mite studies in comparison to placebo. Methods We used MEDLINE, Embase,… Show more

“…Accordingly, we found in our study additional systematic reviews in LILACS that were not indexed in other databases (Pal et al, 2015). This was also the case for previous studies performed on MPS and other indications (Pérez-López et al, 2017;Sampayo-Cordero et al, 2018;Sampayo-Cordero et al, 2019;Mösges et al, 2019).…”

“… 26 The efficacy of AIT for AR and/or asthma has been confirmed in recent systematic meta-analyses. 27 28 29 Indeed, subjects receiving AIT in our study exhibited better AR symptoms compared to subjects without AIT as assessed by self-scored questionnaires. NPT is an objective tool to diagnose AR and has been used for evaluating AIT efficacy in clinical trials.…”
