Study to Confirm the Lack of Severe Cardiac Side-Effects following Treatment with the Beta-Adrenergic Drug Fenoterol

Abstract: 100 patients with premature contractions were treated with the Β-adrenergic agent fenoterol for up to 9 weeks. To rule out a detrimental effect on the myocardium, the creatine kinase isoenzym MB, which is specific to the myocardium, was determined regulary in addition to electrocardiographic monitoring. No pathological enzyme activity was detected even in long-term tocolytic therapy with the maximum dose.

“…Apart from the recommendation to conduct regular ECG tests and especially to reduce (1) the quantity of the unfounded carrier medium, the routine deter mination of the CK-MB, a myocardially specific isoenzyme of CK, was, for the first time, established in the field of perinatology by our work team (13,14,16,19,26). In the meantime, the determination of this parameter representing a delicate indicator for a myocardial infarction or necrosis, has been adopted by competent gynecological centers.…”
