Washing is one of the most important finishing treatments applied on apparels that have great usage to create special outlooks and improving the fashion. Technologically denim washing is the most important fashion element for clothing industry. The aim of this paper is to determine the effects of industrial stone enzyme wash on cotton-jute blended denim fabric. For this investigation, blended denim (75% cotton & 25% jute of total weight of fabric with twill 3/1 weave construction) leg panels were chosen. The selected denim fabric has been processed by stone enzyme wash, in order to evaluate the washing effects on denim leg panel, changes of fabric specification (ends/inch, picks/inch), fabric tensile strength, GSM, shrinkage, color fastness and rubbing test results has been determined after enzyme wash. Then pH is measured, and SEM test done to check the microscopic changes on the fabric surface.

The union fabrics were made from eri with cotton and eri with polyester. The 2/60s eri silk yarn was used as warp and 2/40s cotton and polyester yarns were used as weft to construct the eri union fabrics using three different weaves namely plain, twill and satin. The prepared eri x cotton and eri x polyester union fabrics and also the pure eri x eri fabrics were tested for different physical properties. Properties of union fabric developed in a traditional handloom using 60s reed count. The quality parameters, viz., fabric tensile strength and elongation, crease recovery, drapability, thickness, abrasion, stiffness of the developed fabric, met essential apparel requirements. A comparative subjective evaluation of the fabric quality, viz., aesthetic appearance, luster, texture, was made with the help of a group of people from different age, educational and occupational background to examine the tactile properties as well as suitability of the fabric for the prepared products, all the respondents felt that eri x cotton twill, eri x polyester twill and eri x polyester satin were good in appearance. Texture and luster were found to be medium to high. About a very few respondents felt that fabrics were crispy.

The study was conducted in the Department of Apparel and Textile Science, College of Community Science, Punjab Agricultural University during 2019–2022. The objective of the investigation was to develop apparel products viz. men’s waist coat, ladies top and men’s jacket from eri and ramie blended and union fabrics according to the end use specifications opined by a panel of judges. The commercial viability of the developed end products was also analyzed through a survey based on consumer’s outlook. The consumers were highly appreciative of the developed products and in terms of aesthetic properties, men’s waist coat was found to be excellent whereas ladies top and men’s jacket were found to be very good. As far as overall ranking of the products was concerned, waist coat was considered as the best as compare to men’s jacket and ladies’ top. The price suitability of all the developed products was also found to be appropriate among the consumers. So, the study recommends that proper utilization of eri and ramie fibres in the form of attractive handloom apparel products that will add to its commercial value and also lead to diversification in the market. This study will also inspire fashion designers and manufacturers for the development of unique eco-friendly range of products from natural fibers as the developed products were found to have very good consumer response.
