Study on the Deformation Measurement of the Cast-In-Place Large-Diameter Pile Using Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors

Abstract: Compared with conventional piles such as the circle pile, the cast-in-place large-diameter pile (PCC pile) has many advantages: the lateral area of PCC pile is larger and the bearing capacity of PCC pile is higher. It is more cost-effective than other piles such as square pile under the same condition. The deformation of the PCC pile is very important for its application. In order to obtain the deformation of the PCC pile, a new type of quasi-distributed optical fiber sensing technology named a fiber Bragg gra… Show more

“…The necessity of performing aircraft fatigue and static tests for structure strength design and evaluation was investigated by Jian Wu et al [3]. Load distribution measurements are also conducted in other branches of industry, e.g., Lei Gao et al [4] for large diameter pile. The overall reliability and maintenance analysis of UAV is delivered in Reference [5].…”

“…FBG sensing technology can monitor pile deformation in the process of pile foundation static load and drawing tests. FBG sensors have been embedded in the pile to reveal the stress mechanism of the pile [ 17 , 18 , 19 ]. For the strain test of the pile body in the pile jacking process, it is very important to overcome the serious disturbance caused by soil particle movement to the pile end and pile body and to protect the sensor from damage during the test.…”

“…The applicability of the fiber grating sensor in monitoring the strain distribution of the pile during jacking had been demonstrated. Gao et al [21] monitored the deformation of PCC (Large diameter pipe pile by using cast-in-place concrete) piles based on a new quasi-distributed fiber sensing technology while the strain of PCC model piles based on FBG sensors was monitored. However, the traditional monitoring technology used during the pile jacking process of indoor model pipe piles is primarily a strain gauge [22][23][24].…”
