Study on the characteristics of biomass for co-combustion in coal power plant

Abstract: In this study, a torrefaction experiment was carried out using domestic woody biomass (waste wood and logging residue) and overseas herbaceous biomass (PKS: palm kernel shell and bagasse). Torrefaction was performed in a nitrogen atmosphere using a batch-type apparatus, either with changing torrefaction temperature or with changing duration at a constant temperature. Here, only the oxygen contained in the biomass was used in the torrefaction experiment. The physical and chemical properties of biomass fuels pro… Show more

“…The progress of human civilization is heavily dependent on energy production for generating electricity, as well as for thermal applications [1]. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas have been used irresponsibly to produce energy over the years [2]. Therefore, the amount of greenhouse gases have sharply increased in the atmosphere.…”

“…Retsch SM 2000 with 1.5 mm screen was used to measure the specific grinding energy [28]. Ohm et al, also conducted experiments with torrefaction of PKS among other materials such as waste wood, logging residues and bagasse [31]. The feedstock was placed in a ceramic dish which in turn was put into the electric furnace.…”
