The paper considers the problem of optimal redistribution of transit container flows on the railway network. The problem is proposed to be solved as the problem of a multi-commodity flow of minimum cost using the relaxation method. The relaxation method allows choosing the most efficient variant of the next solution at each iteration step. To search for the optimal distribution of container flows on the network, graph theory was used, i.e., the network is presented as a multigraph with a set of vertices and arcs, for which the costs of transporting a unit of production, the maximum and minimum values of the flows between the vertices are given, the conditions for maintaining the flow at the vertices of the graph and restrictions on the amount of flow along the arcs are given. It has been established that in order to implement the task, it is necessary to take into account the unit costs for the movement of container flows between the nodes of the railway network, taking into account the capacity of the branches between the junction stations. The developed mathematical model for the redistribution of container traffic allows you to identify areas with limited throughput, develop options for optimization measures, and, as a result, achieve an economic effect by reducing the cost of transporting containerized cargo.

Freight Mode Coordination in China: From the Perspective of Regional Differences

Studying the coordination of varied freight modes from the perspective of geographic regions is conducive to understanding the regional differences, and this can provide effective countermeasures and suggestions for the sustainable and coordinated development of freight transport. To reflect on the effects of regional differences in the coordination of freight modes, we divided China into four regions: The East, Central, West, and Northeast. We examined freight mode coordination in terms of region and analysed the coordination of freight modes from three aspects: one within a single freight mode system, between varied freight modes, and among freight modes and the economy in different regions. We selected 19 freight indexes based on China’s freight data from 2008 to 2017, and determined the relationship between the freight index and economic index gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate by means of stability, co-integration, and the Granger causality test. The coordination models within a single freight mode and among varied freight modes were established, and we conducted spatial autocorrelation between the freight mode and the economy. The results demonstrated that in the four regions of China, the single-freight mode had coordination of over 0.80; the coordination between waterway and aviation freight transport was over 0.83; and the coordination of varied freight modes in the Eastern region exceeded 0.78, with good overall coordination. Among the four regions, the spatial correlation between the Eastern and Western regions was not significant, while the correlation between the Central and Northeast regions was significant. The model and analysis methods established in this study were feasible and effective. In view of the universality of the model, it can be easily applied and generalized in or out of China.

Background: The coming period of the world economy's recovery from the first stage of the pandemic crisis will seriously change the situation in the cargo and passenger segment. According to the current situation, the global market is marked by a violation of the usual links between producers and consumers, an imbalance in transport flows associated with changes in demand. At the same time, during the crisis, container cargo transportation by rail is the main tool, since a significant amount of anti-epidemic protection equipment from China was transported by trains. It is clear that in the near future, the market dynamics depends primarily on further developments and measures of state support for industries and businesses. Aim: assessment of factors of the crisis economy, as well as analysis and evaluation of investment attractiveness of transport organizations engaged in intermodal container cargo transportation on the example of the largest operator in Russia. Methods: to achieve this goal, standard research methods were used: theoretical, experimental; complex methods of analysis and evaluation of business processes, methods of qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Results: systematize factors that significantly changes the model of the transportation business; analyze the loss of earnings as the result of a crisis situation on the market; given the method of evaluating the investment attractiveness of the largest Russian container operator on the basis of complex use of accounting approach and rating method of evaluation; introduced an analytical map of improvement of investment attractiveness with reasonable measures in the form of blocks for formulation of the plans of the organization, the business model of container transport, road map and forecasting results.
