The work-sampling method makes it possible to gain valuable insights into what is happening in production systems. Work sampling is a process used to estimate the proportion of shift time that workers (or machines) spend on different activities (within productive work or losses). It is estimated based on enough random observations of activities over a selected period. When workplace operations do not have short cycle times or high repetition rates, the use of such a statistical technique is necessary because the labor sampling data can provide information that can be used to set standards. The work-sampling procedure is well standardized, but additional contributions are possible when evaluating the observations. In this paper, we present our contribution to improving the decision-making process based on work-sampling data. We introduce a correlation comparison of the measured hourly shares of all activities in pairs to check whether there are mutual connections or to uncover hidden connections between activities. The results allow for easier decision-making (conclusions) regarding the influence of the selected activities on the triggering of the others. With the additional calculation method, we can uncover behavioral patterns that would have been overlooked with the basic method. This leads to improved efficiency and productivity of the production system.

Innovations in food manufacturing support the agenda for sustainable development goal 9 (SDG9) on industry, innovation and infrastructure. Pursuant to this goal, this study aims to develop an automated multi-spit lamb rotisserie machine that potentially improves the lamb-roasting productivity for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The conceptualisation involved patents, scholarly literature and product reviews of lamb-roasting devices. The design and analysis are performed using Autodesk Inventor 2019. A scaled-down prototype is developed and tested with (1) roasting output, (2) roasting time and (3) temperature stability tests. The data for test (1) are analysed by comparing the means between control and experimental groups. The data for tests (2) and (3) are analysed using the t-test and Mann–Whitney U test, respectively. Significant differences are observed in tests (1) and (2), with outcomes being in favour of the proposed invention. The prototype cooks 92.27% faster with 700% more meat than a regular lamb roaster. It also cooks at a stable temperature. The cost analysis indicated that this invention could be sold at USD 278 if mass-produced. The design is structurally simple, inexpensive and easy to manufacture, allowing SMEs that rely on traditional spit-based machines to enhance their ability in producing roast lamb.

Supplier evaluation and selection are key components in the supply chain because supplier performance directly affects the supply chain's efficiency. Therefore, companies should think strategically when they need to select their suppliers. Thus, selecting and evaluating new suppliers is essential in shaping the supply chain's smoothness and efficiency. Selecting suppliers is a complex issue as it involves many factors and decisions to be considered and needs to be assessed with an auditing process. However, a supplier audit is an expensive way to evaluate supplier capability. This research aims to propose a supplier selection model for a corrugated carton manufacturing company. The SOCCER model, developed by Steve Rogers, was used as the supplier selection criteria. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used in the supplier selection. A face-to-face interview method was used in collecting data. The results show that the cost structure is the ultimate concern on supplier selection which bears 44.2% of the SOCCER model, followed by operational capability (23%), customer approach (13.5%), economic performance (8.3%), strategic direction (6.9%), and lastly research and development (4.1%). The percentages inform the company how much attention they need to pay when evaluating and selecting a new supplier. ABSTRAK: Penilaian dan pemilihan pembekal adalah kunci utama dalam rantaian bekalan kerana prestasi pembekal secara langsung melibatkan kecekapan rantaian bekalan. Oleh itu, syarikat perlu memikirkan secara strategik apabila ingin memilih pembekal. Dengan demikian, pemilihan dan penilaian pembekal baru adalah penting dalam pembentukan kelancaran rantaian bekalan dan kecekapan. Pemilihan pembekal adalah isu kompleks kerana ianya melibatkan banyak faktor dan keputusan perlu difikirkan dan perlu dinilai bersama proses audit. Namun, audit pembekal adalah mahal bagi menilai kemampuan pembekal. Kajian ini mencadangkan model pemilihan pembekal bagi syarikat pembekal kotak karton. Model SOCCER dicipta oleh Steve Rogers, telah digunakan sebagai kritia pemilihan pembekal. Proses Hirarki Analitikal (AHP) digunakan dalam pemilihan pembekal. Kaedah temuduga bersemuka digunakan dalam pengumpulan data. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan struktur harga adalah kehendak utama dalam pemilihan pembekal iaitu 44.2% daripada model SOCCER, diikuti kemampuan operasi (23%), pendekatan pelanggan (13.5%), prestasi ekonomi (8.3%), misi strategik (6.9 %), dan akhirnya penyelidikan dan pembangunan (4.1%). Peratusan ini berguna untuk syarikat dalam memberi keutamaan dalam penilaian dan pemilihan pembekal baru.
