Study on Biomarkers Related to the Treatment of Post-Stroke Depression and Alternative Medical Treatment Methods

Abstract: Purpose PSD is a syndrome that occurs after a stroke, which manifests as a series of depressive symptoms and corresponding physiological symptoms. Relevant studies have shown that the drug therapy is often accompanied by drug side effects and patient resistance. Acupuncture has attracted attention as a treatment method without adverse reactions of patients. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possible mechanism of action of acupuncture in PSD. Patients and Methods … Show more

“…Current research on protein markers of VaD is limited. The anti-aging gene Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) was confirmed to be a depression and stroke-related gene ( Martins, 2016 ; Li et al, 2022 ). Sirtuin 1 is a critical nuclear deacetylase that participates in regulating the transcription of various transcription factors and cellular signal transduction proteins, involving inflammation, neurogenesis, glucose/cholesterol metabolism, and amyloidosis ( Lu et al, 2018 ; Man et al, 2019 ; Ministrini et al, 2021 ).…”

“…Both bioinformatics and experimental studies have shown that activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway tended to induce PSD [ 43 ]. Activation of the PI3K/Akt pathway could serve as a biomarker for PSD, which could protect nerves during cerebral ischemia/perfusion by inducing proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells [ 40 , 44 ]. Various compounds, such as resveratrol, kaempferol (KPF), and NYT, have been shown to play a neuroprotective role by regulating the PI3K/Akt related pathways to reduce inflammatory factors and weaken microglial polarization [ 40 , 45 , 46 ].…”

“…Several R packages, including " org.Hs.Eg.Db," "ggplot2," and "clusterPro ler," were used to conduct Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment studies to look into the biological processes enriched by the acquired genes in critical modules 19 . The enriched GO or route keywords with notable changes were then scrutinized using a threshold p-value of 0.05.…”
