Study of the reactionsπ − p→K 0(890) Λ,K 0(890)Σ 0 andK 0(890)Σ 0 at 3.95 GeV/c

We study the strangeness and charm productions induced by the pion beam, i.e. the $\pi^-$p $\rightarrow$ $K^{*0}\Lambda$ and $\pi^-$p $\rightarrow$ $D^{*-}\Lambda_c^+$ reactions, based on two different theoretical frameworks: an effective Lagrangian method and a Regge approach. In order to estimate the magnitude of the charm production relative to that of the strangeness production, we assume that the coupling constants for the charmed meson and baryon vertices are the same as those for the strangeness channel. We found that the total cross section for the charm production was about $10^3 - 10^6$ times smaller than that for the strangeness production, depending on theoretical approaches and kinematical regions. We also discuss each contribution to observables for both reactions. In general, the Regge approach explains the experimental data very well over the whole energy region.Comment: 20 pages, 15 figure

We introduce an idea of a high static Λp scattering experiment at the high-momentum beam line in the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC). High static Λp scattering data is essential to investigate the two-body ΛN interaction precisely and may lead to understanding of the core of the neutron star. The Λ particle produced via the π − p → K * 0 (892)Λ reaction is tagged by the forward spectrometer complex shared with the J-PARC E50 experiment. The yield of tagged Λ was estimated to be 320 MΛs in one month beam time by the Geant4 based Monte Carlo simulation. By using the surrounding detector around the liquid hydrogen target, 5.5 × 10 4 Λp scatterings will be detected in the Λ momentum region of 0.65-0.75 GeV/c.
