Study of the Potential of Amphiphilic Conetworks Based on Poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) as New Platforms for Delivery of Drugs with Limited Solubility

Abstract: Thermoresponsive amphiphilic conetworks comprising poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (PEtOx), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, and 2-hydroxypropyl acrylate segments have been studied as new platforms for delivery of drug with limited solubility. Series of conetworks of varied composition were synthesized and swelling kinetics in aqueous media and ethanol were followed. The platforms were loaded with the hydrophobic drug ibuprofen by swelling in its ethanol solution. The structure and properties of the drug carriers were i… Show more

“…This concept was used to fabricate segmented polymer networks with methyl methacrylate (MMA) as co-monomer. 46 The combination of POx with either HPA or HEMA resulted in gels with a temperature dependent water uptake. Further work on these systems was conducted in 2003 to create thermo-responsive POx networks.…”

“…In addition, the rate of drug adsorption probably rose with the increase of degree swelling of APCNs. 47 The amount of drug loading (ADL), encapsulation efficiency (EE) and the partition coefficient (K) of PTX and DOX in each samples were listed in Table 2. It was found that the amount of loaded PTX and DOX was affected clearly by the compositions of hydrophobic/hydrophilic phase.…”

“…Amphiphilic co-network (APCN), [1][2][3][4][5] which is composed of hydrophilic and hydrophobic units through covalently interlinking into a three-dimensional (3D) structure, becomes the forefront of polymer science research due to its potential application in many advanced areas, such as intelligent polymer materials, 2 antifouling surface, 3 biomedical materials, 4 and drug-controlled release matrices. 5 In recent years, the commonly reported APCN, usually consists of polyisobutylene (PIB), 6,7 polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), 8,9 and various polyacrylates 10,11 as hydrophobic segments.…”
