Study of the Morphofunctional Alterations Produced by Fenticonazole on Strains of Candida albicans, using the Scanning Electron Microscope (S. E. M.)

Abstract: Summary: The observation under the scanning electron microscope of cell morphological alterations in cultures of Candida albicans treated with Fenticonazole has led us to study the biological characterization of the substance which probably exhibits a block of enzymatic activity (cytochrome oxidase and peroxidase) as primordial cause of the structural and functional modifications observed. Zusammenfassung: Die SEM Beobachtung der morphologischen Zellveränderung in Candida albicans mit Fenticonazole versetzte… Show more

“…Some of the morphofunctional alterations produced by the imidazoles for a number of cellular compounds are known, but new studies are required to achieve a better knowledge of their action. Candida albicans is one of the most common pathogenic yeasts and has been used as a model to study the mechanisms of action of many antimicrobial agents including the imidazoles (1, 2,3,6,9,10,11,12,13,14,21). However, the differences between the particular activity of each of them are in some cases blatant, e.g.…”
