Study of the mechanical behavior of asphalt mixtures in terms of creep and Superpave compaction parameters

Abstract: This was a study on the mechanical behavior of hot asphalt mixtures with regard to permanent deformation, considering static creep tests and the parameters derived from the Superpave compaction curve. For the asphalt mixture production, mineral aggregates and two types of asphalt binder (CAP 50/70 and AMP 60/85) were used. These mixtures were designed using the Superpave methodology and compacted in the content and number of gyrations according to the design. For the design condition, asphalt mixtures using th… Show more

“…For fatigue and rutting, relative performance indicators were constructed using a control or base level that indicates the maximum performance of the mixture. Performance is defined as the number of ESALs required to attain failure for a given distress, where failure limits are specified as 10% cracking of the entire fatigue place and 6.35 mm permanent deformation of AC layer for rutting [ [12], [13], [14]]. The control fatigue performance, PFatigue, will be clear at 50 gyartions fatigue life measurement, as the mix design results in a higher asphalt content, which makes the asphalt concrete layer more flexible and therefore more resistant to fatigue cracking.…”

“…For example, some roads are predominantly used by passenger cars, others by large vehicles. On some roads, the volume of traffic rarely changes throughout the year, in others, it depends on seasonal activities such as harvesting and transporting crops from agricultural enterprises [ [5], [6], [7]]. For this reason, for each specific road, road builders develop individual asphalt mixes.…”

“…It is necessary to carry out maintenance and repair operations in terms of the continuity of transportation. In such cases, there will be an additional cost to the country's economy [11][12][13]. Stone mastic asphalt mixtures, which show higher resistance to negative effects, have started to be used more widely in our country in recent years in order to reduce the deterioration and the total costs [14].…”
