Introduction: India has got the label of “an ageing nation” due to contribution of elderly population to demographic figures increasing day by day. Elderly persons face dual disease burden that is communicable as well as non-communicable diseases. Objectives: To find out prevalence of various geriatric morbidities. Methodology: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 463 geriatric persons residing in urban field practice area from Jan 2018 to June 2018. Results: Overall prevalence of musculoskeletal problems was found 72.3%. Prevalence of respiratory problems like asthma, tuberculosis etc. was 17.3%. As the age increases number of participants with presence of any morbidities also increases and this difference was found statistically significant. Presence of any morbidity was found higher among widow or widower compared to married participants and this difference was also found statistically significant. Conclusions: Present study shows higher prevalence of morbidities among geriatric population like musculoskeletal disorders, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, impaired vision, anemia etc. Increased life expectancy, rapid urbanization and lifestyle changes all contribute to higher prevalence of morbidities. Lifestyle modification, appropriate delivery of preventive, curative and rehabilitative health care services to geriatric age group would definitely help them to lead a life in a healthy manner.

Background: According to census 2011 the elderly population aged 60 years and above accounts for 8% of the total population and is projected to rise to 12.4% by the year 2026. The elderly are one of the most vulnerable and high-risk groups in terms of health status and hence their health-related problems need to be assessed and addressed accordingly. Objective: To study the morbidity pattern among the geriatric population in the urban field practice area of JJM Medical college Davangere. Methods: It was a community based cross sectional study which was conducted in the urban field practice area of JJM Medical College Davangere. The total study subjects were 440 individuals aged 60 years and above. Data was collected using a predesigned, pre-tested and semi- structured questionnaire. Data was analyzed by using MS Excel and Open-Epi Info software version 2.2. Results: The study revealed that the some of the common morbidities among the geriatric subjects were the disorders of the musculoskeletal system (71.4%), eye and adnexa (49.7%), oral cavity (32.9%), endocrine, nutritional and metabolic disorders (32.9%) etc. Conclusion: In this study a significant association was found between some of the morbidities and socio demographic determinants like age, occupation and religion.

Mustard cultivation boasts a rich historical legacy in Nepal, dating back to prehistoric times. Chitwan, a district located in Bagmati province, is one of major mustard producing districts of Nepal. The study entitled “Analyzing the Economic Dynamics of Mustard Farming in Eastern Chitwan, Nepal “was conducted from March 2022 to July 2022. The major objective of the study was to conduct a comprehensive economic appraisal of mustard production in Eastern Chitwan, Nepal. A total of 123 samples were taken from four municipalities of Eastern Chitwan using semi-structured questionnaire. Descriptive and statistical tools including Cobb-Douglas production function were used to analyze the collected data. Farmers were found to be cultivating mustard on an average land of 0.47 hectare with an average production of 14,283 kg per hectare. The average cost of production per hectare was calculated to be NPR 12, 01,452. Mustard production business in the study area was observed to be a profitable business enterprise with a B/C ratio of 1.78 yielding an average return of NPR 21,42,440 and net profit of NPR 9,40,988. The major identified market areas were Tandi, Khairahani bazar, Bhandara, Kholesimal and Bakulahar. The most preferred marketing channel was observed to be from producers directly to consumers. The study revealed that higher costs of fertilizer, plant protection, and labor were associated with increased gross income in mustard farming, supported by statistical significance.
