“…The most typical point defects in garnet crystals are extrinsic substitutional point defects, intrinsic antisite defects, and vacancies (see, e.g., Refs. ). Particularly, the creation of antisite defects in GGG crystals grown by Czochralski method from the melt‐solution (3Gd 2 O 3 + 5Ga 2 O 3 ) occurs due to the gallium evaporation, which causes the change of stoichiometric ratio 3:5 toward the increase of gadolinium cations Gd 3+ .…”

“…For YAG, the low frequency peaks at ~ 161 and 217 cm −1 can be assigned as the translational modes of YO 8 unit, and those ranging from 240 to 420 cm −1 can be ascribed to mixing of the translational and rotational modes of YO 8 frequency region of 500-900 cm −1 correspond to the υ 1 breathing, υ 2 quadruple and υ 4 molecular internal modes of AlO 4 . 38,39 In contrast, much fewer Raman modes were identified in the spectrum of Li 6 CaLa 2 Nb 2 O 12 , which was attributed by Papagelis et al to the weakness or degeneracy of some modes, 40 and the four main groups of bands in the ranges of ~ 80-175, 175-320, 320-600 and 600-900 cm −1 , respectively, are similar to the characteristic Raman bands observed for Al-doped Li 7 La 3 Zr 2 O 12 garnet (Ia-3d space group). 41 This verified the structure model of Li 6 CaLa 2 Nb 2 O 12 in this work.…”

“…It is well-known that the YAG crystals applied to high-power laser programs such as HiPER and LUCIA must guarantee large-size and high quality gain medium of its own kind with a good thermal conductivity [2,3]. Unfortunately, the limit of the conventional Czochralski (CZ) technique [4] to fabricate the desired Nd-doped YAG single crystals is that it introduces the defects which would affect the laser performance, such as cores or light-scattering particles, inhomogeneous distribution of laseractive dopant and contamination of boule [5].…”
