Study of strength properties of semi-finished products from economically alloyed high-strength aluminium-scandium alloys for application in automobile transport and shipbuilding

Abstract: The results of a study on the strength of rolled products from aluminium alloys doped with scandium under various processing conditions of hot and cold rolling are presented. The regularities of metal flow and the level of strength of deformed semi-finished products from aluminum-scandium alloys are established, depending on the total degree of deformation and the various modes of single reduction during rolling. It is shown that when using one heating of a cast billet to obtain high-quality semi-finished prod… Show more

“…These alloys have a unique combination of properties, such as reduced density, corrosion resistance, weldability, high processability in pressure processing, which is why they are extremely popular in many industries, especially in transport engineering (shipbuilding, automotive, etc.) [1][2][3]. The main mechanisms for hardening the alloys of this system are solid solution hardening and cold deformation.…”

“…An example of such alloys are Russian aluminum alloys 1570 and 1580, in which the content of scandium is, respectively, 0.17-0.27, and 0.05-0.14% (wt.). The technology for producing flat products from these alloys is described in [32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40]. However, with the positive effect of scandium on increasing strength, the high cost of this metal limits the widespread use of these alloys.…”

“…Previously, studies were conducted in which was justified the choice of the chemical composition of the experimental alloy [20][21][22][23][24][25], computer models were developed, the modes of hot rolling of model ingots on a laboratory mill of DUO 330 are calculated and tested, and also received data on mechanical characteristics and structure of metal. However, these results were mainly obtained for laboratory conditions for processing ingots of small dimensions of a new alloy, manufactured at a scale of 1:10 with respect to industrial ingots.…”
