Study of Normal Values of Evan’s Index on Brain CT Scan in Individuals attending Nepal Medical College Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal

Abstract: Ventriculographic indices are obtained by using Evan’s Index. Evan’s Index is a ratio which compares the maximum width of the frontal horns of the lateral ventricle to the maximum transverse diameter of the inner table of the skull and serves as an indirect marker of ventricular volume. Evan’s Index has been extensively used in the diagnosis of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus, in the assessment of outcome of patients having shunt placement which is the primary mode of treatment. This study was aimed t… Show more

“…12,13 The EI values increase with age, as noted in our study and reported by others. 9,[14][15][16] For instance, in patients older than 90 years, the EI was 0.2802±0.0310 while in patients less than 10 years old, it was 0.2389±0.0243.…”

“…In several studies, a different approach to analyzing lateral ventricles was utilized. The authors have implemented different ratio assessments, specifically the frontal horn ratio, the bicaudate ratio, and Evan's ratio [26][27][28]. We abstained from using the frontal horn ratio in our analysis as we believe that it may be influenced by the shape and curve of the frontal horn between the anatomic planes of reference (sagittal, frontal, and horizontal).…”
