Study of Electromagnetic Ion-Cyclotron Instability in a Magnetoplasma

Abstract: Abstract-Excitation of electromagnetic ion-cyclotron instability in the magneto plasma in the presence of perpendicular A.C. electric field for a generalized distribution function for background cold electrons and hot ion plasma has been studied. This distribution function is reducible to anisotropic and loss-cone type for different values of spectral index j. The particle trajectories have been estimated and used to find the dispersion relation and growth rate by using the method of characteristic solutions. … Show more

“…It shows that rather an increase in electron energy, more and more energy transfer from electrons to the discharge plasma species takes place. Under these conditions the kT e decreases and neutral gas temperature increases due to the existence of a balance between the total ionization events and the total particle losses to the plasma chamber walls [7,18]. The particle-wall recombination probability is different for different wall surfaces.…”

“…Most of DBDs can successfully be operated with high frequencies ranging from few kHz to few MHz [2,3]. These high frequency operations are necessary for production of metastable species which play a major role during the generation of discharge plasmas through penning ionization.…”
