Study of control for the automated clutch of an automated manual transmission vehicle based on rapid control prototyping

Abstract: Owing to external disturbances, parameter uncertainty, and measurement noise, it has been a challenging task to develop an appropriate controller for the automated clutch system. This paper proposes a new method for electromechanical clutch position control systems. First, a non-linear dynamic model for the screw-nut actuator associated with a clutch is derived, and then a dynamic sliding-mode controller with fuzzy adaptive tuning is developed. The fuzzy adaptive tuning arithmetic is used to improve the robust… Show more

“…According to the literature [8], the target displacement curves of the release bearing for slow and the fast starting of the vehicle with constant engine rotating speed are shown in Figures 9 and 10. The fast separation process of the clutch occurs before 1 s, and clutch engagement occurs after 1s, and both comprise the starting process of a vehicle.…”

“…The control characteristics of the clutch were improved by the robustness of the control method against system disturbance and parameter changes. The dynamic sliding-mode control [7,8] and fuzzy sliding-mode control [9] were proposed to mitigate the chattering phenomenon that occurs in traditional slidingmode controllers and to improve system robustness. However, the actual system has the inevitable problems of spatial lag and time delay because of the switching device.…”

“…Thanks to its simple structure, low cost, and high transmission efficiency, the application of AMT to vehicles has been continually increasing. AMT has now been applied in several car models, such as the Volkswagen Lupo, Honda Civic, BWM M3, Benz Smart, and others [7][8][9].…”

“…1 For AMT and DCT systems the strategies implemented in the control units are very important, because they influence the vehicle propulsion perceived by the driver. [3][4][5][6][7][8][9] The model proposed by Vasca et al 2 described the influence of the load-deflection curve of the cushion spring on the torque transmissibility by the clutch. In fact, the torque transmissibility, given by the loaddeflection curve of the cushion spring, is non-linear and this issue affects the effectiveness of the control strategy implemented by the TCU.…”
