Study of Coefficient of Variation, Heritability and Genetic Advance for Different Traits of Rice Genotypes Grown under Aerobic Condition

Abstract: The field experiments with thirty genotypes were conducted during June to October month of kharif, 2018 and kharif, 2019, to assess extent of variability under aerobic condition. The genotypes were sown under dry direct seeded condition using randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. Each genotype was sown in single row of 5 m length with spacing of 20 cm between rows and 15 cm between plants. Data recorded for 22 characters including different morphological and quality traits from 5 randomly sel… Show more

“…Hence, for effective selection, a thorough study on genotypic and phenotypic variability is essential (Kumari et al, 2017). Correlation studies and further partitioning into various components of yield and other characters are rational approaches to understand the nature and magnitude of their relationship (Dey et al, 2021) as the breeders are always interested in the improvement of several economic characters including yield, the knowledge of correlation among the traits is important to have the idea of concurrent changes which would be brought about in other traits while making selection for one trait (Bennurmath et al, 2021). It is a well-known fact that there exists a complex association among different characters in the plant system.…”

“…Coefficients of variation between 9.98 and 12.81% were obtained for all the variables evaluated. These coefficients of variation obtained are considered appropriate for this research, being lower than 21%, maximum value recommended for agronomical sciences, according to Dey et al (2021). The variable with the lowest variability was FPH, and hybrid WG1 had the highest value in this variable, with significant differences with respect to the other three single hybrids evaluated.…”

“…IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0 software was used to conduct Duncan multiple comparison [ 32 ], the Euclidean distance calculation based on standardized 18 HPLC characteristic peak areas [ 33 ], Pearson correlation analysis among 6 ingredients [ 34 ]. According to the formula of coefficient of variation: C.V = SD/MN * 100 % ( C.V : coefficient of variation; SD : standard deviation; MN : average value) to calculate the quality variation of Radix Scrophulariae [ 35 ].…”
