Study of Biological Methods in Landfill Leachate Treatment

Abstract: Landfill leachate is mainly the result of precipitation of water into the layers of buried waste, and biochemical reactions of waste that has dangerous substances and pollutants that lead to the contamination of surface and groundwater resources. Therefore, it must be collected and treated properly. The investigation of various biological methods in leachate treatment, their advantages and disadvantages, and their effect on reduction of COD (chemical oxygen demand) are the objectives of this study. “…Small amounts of pedunculated or fixed ciliates were also identified (Figure 3). Among them, it was possible to identify the protozoan similar to Vorticella, which occurs in systems with good efficiency and well-oxygenated sludge (LEE et al, 2004;PAYANDEH;MEHRDADI;DADGAR, 2017;PONCE-ROBLES et al, 2018;JIANG et al, 2021).…”

“…A lot of studies have been devoted to the use of aerobic and anaerobic microbiocenoses. The results of studies on anaerobic and aerobic purification by microbiocenosis of landfill filtrates are especially widely covered in the scientific literature (Govahi et al, 2012;Dzhamalova, 2015;Payandeh et al, 2017). The optimum schemes of such processes, perspective types of the equipment for their realization, qualitative and quantitative structures of microbiocenoses which are applied in such technologies are established.…”

“…The generation and management of solid wastes and their by‐products represent a major challenge faced by public managers, and this issue of waste disposal is one of the leading public health and environmental concerns related to urban activities (Guerrero, Maas, & Hogland, 2013; Mali & Patil, 2016; Nascimento, Sobral, Andrade, & Ometto, 2015). In developing countries, landfills are known to minimize adverse impacts on the environment and public health and are both economically and technically feasible (Cubas et al., 2016; Payandeh, Mehrdadi, & Dadgar, 2017).…”
