“…Blood group B is most common blood group followed by blood group O, whereas blood group AB is least common among the populations of Eastern Uttar Pradesh region. To test if our sampling had covered the representative blood group distribution of this region, we referred to the published data of the same region [36][37][38][39][40][41][42][43] and performed a regression analysis. The adjusted R square value (83.6 % +3.4 %) demonstrated significantly high level of correlation between our data as well as published data, suggesting that our sampling indeed represented the regional distribution of the blood groups.…”

“…Although several reports are published on RBC antigens of various castes from U.P. as well as from all over the India like-Brahmins (Guniyal, 2006;Mukhopadhyay and Kshatriya, 2004;Tewari and Bhasin, 1968), Rajputs (Chaudhary and Malik, 1997;Kumar et al, 2009a;Mukhopadhyay and Kshastriya, 2004;Pattanayak, 2006;Warghat et al, 2011), Scheduled Caste population (Kushwaha et al, 1990;Mandal, 1992;Patni and Yadav, 2003;Rai et al, 2009a, b;Sidhu, 2003;Thukral and Bhasin, 1990), muslim population (Ara et al, 2008;Kumar et al, 2010;Srivastava, 1975) but very few reports are available about ABO distribution in Backward castes population (Kumar et al, 2008Prabhakar et al, 2005;Reddy and Reddy, 2005). In all earlier published reports on ABO distribution in OBC population, the sample size was very small and in present study the sample size is comparably large Fig.…”

“…In total 200 samples analyzed, phenotype B blood type has the highest frequency 36.5% (n=73, followed by O (34.5%; n=69), A (20.5%; n=41) and AB (8.5%; n=17) ( Table 1) A, B and AB blood groups were found in 49, 24, 48 and 11 individuals respectively. In female samples the phenotypic frequencies were B> O> A>AB, whereas in male samples overall phenotypic frequencies were O> B> A>AB ( Table 2) Warghat et al, 2011), Dadar and Nagar Haveli (Meitei and Kshatriya,2010), Rajasthan (Thukral and Bhasin, 1990),Haryana (Kushwaha et al,1990), Punjab (Sidhu, 2003), Uttrakhand (Patni and Yadav, 2003;Guniyal, 2006;Pattanayak,2006), Jammu and Kashmir (Calcutti et al, 2003), Himanchal Pradesh (Mukhopadhyaya and Kshatriys, 2004), Assam (Chakraborty, 2010), Manipur (Devi and Singh, 2008), Orissa (Mohanty and Das, 2010) , Uttar Pradesh (Mandal ,1992 ;Ara et al 2008;Kumar et al,2009aKumar et al, ,b,c,2010, Rai,2011Rai et al, 2009aRai et al, ,b,c, 2010, but the UP population is very less explored.…”
