“…Analyses can monitor the activity of microbiological agents and alterations of artistic support on canvas painting, and on the filmogenic components, thus delimiting each type of organic material and the microorganisms in this support (Agrawal, Dhawan, & Garg, 1989;Bolívar, 1995;Bravery, 1988;Evans, Wales, Bratt, & Sagar, 1992;Gargani, 1968;Gaylarde & Moreno, 2006;Giacobini and Firpi, 1981;Ross, 1963;Strzelczyk, 1981). Other studies deal directly with the nature and composition of the organic materials of canvas paintings, and either focus on the composition of the textile support, or the agglutinants, pigments and protection layers of the pictorial substrate.…”

“…As most of the collagen-based artifacts, leather is frequently involved in bio-deterioration caused by microorganisms (Strzelczyk et al, 1989). The non-adequate environmental conditions of artifacts conservation constitute a crucial factor in the promotion and development of the bio-deterioration favored, in particular, by altered values of temperature and/or relative humidity (Strzelczyk et al, 1987(Strzelczyk et al, , 1997Montanari et al, 2012). The bio-deteriorating agents can cause structural and chromatic alterations inducing hydrolysis of the collagen fibers, modifying the leather's inorganic components, producing pigments, and organic acids causing chromatic alteration or discolouration of the support Piñar et al, 2015a,b;Cicero et al, 2018;Mercuri et al, 2018).…”

“…Pigments and colored spores are produced as the molds grow on wood surfaces resulting in wood discolorations (Viitanen and Ritschkoff, 1991;Ghosh et al, 2008), and distortion of wood could take place without affecting its strength (Daniel, 2003). Decayed bookbinding leather showed the prescience of C. globosum as a very active organism (Strzelczyk et al, 1987).…”
