Over the years, growing highly efficient crystals in performing multi-level applications has consistently consolidated its position whereby a good number of novel crystals are kept added such that the emerging technology keeps on moving to the next possible level. On this count, R-Mandelic acid S-alanine hemihydrate (RMSA) single crystals with nonlinear optical (NLO) activity were produced at 37°C by the solvent evaporation technique. X-ray diffraction assessment on the single crystal as well as in the powder form was used to estimate the lattice constants. The crystal structure of RMSA is found to be triclinic. According to the transmission spectrum, RMSA's UV cutoff wavelength is 268 nm. Using FTIR spectroscopy, the vibrations of functional groups were clarified. The 13C-NMR spectroscopy was used to determine the molecular structure of RMSA. The Kurtz-Perry SHG test revealed that SHG was existent at a considerable level. When RMSA is compared to pure alanine, the SHG efficiency is discovered to be higher. Utilizing the He-Ne laser and single-beam Z-scan technology, a third-order nonlinear optical investigation was carried out. Positive nonlinearity in RMSA was revealed by a closed-aperture approach, while reverse saturation was revealed by an open-aperture analysis. The obtained results establish the possibility of RMSA as a crystal to be used in optoelectronic and optical device applications to obtain output with high efficiency.

The first silver bismuth borate, AgBi2B5O11 (silver dibismuth pentaborate), has been prepared via glass crystallization in the Ag2O–Bi2O3–B2O3 system and characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. Its structure is derived from that of centrosymmetric Bi3B5O12 by ordered substitution of one Bi3+ ion for Ag+, which results in the disappearance of the mirror plane and inversion centre. Second harmonic generation (SHG) measurements confirm the acentric crystal structure. It is formed by [Bi2B5O11]∞ layers stretched along c and comprised of vertex‐sharing B5O10 and BiO3 groups which incorporate the Ag+ cations. The new compound was characterized by thermal analysis, high‐temperature powder X‐ray diffraction, and vibrational and UV–Vis–NIR (near infrared) spectroscopy. Its thermal expansion is strongly anisotropic due to the presence of rigid B5O10 groups aligned in a parallel manner. The minimal value is observed along their axis [parallel to c, αc = 3.1 (1) × 10−6 K−1], while maximal values are observed in the ab plane [αa = 20.4 (2) and αb = 7.8 (2) × 10−6 K−1]. Upon heating, AgBi2B5O11 starts to decay above 684 K due to partial reduction of silver; incongruent melting is observed at 861 K. According to density functional theory (DFT) band‐structure calculations, the new compound is a semiconductor with an indirect energy gap of 3.57 eV, which agrees with the experimental data (absorption onset at 380 nm).

Single crystals of dipotassium fumarate dihydrate (DKFD) have been grown by slow solvent evaporation method. The structural characteristics of the grown crystals was studied from single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal system of the grown crystal was found to be monoclinic. The lower cut-off wavelength of DKFD was found at 300 nm and good transparency window was observed from 300 to 1100 nm. The existence of various functional groups was established from FTIR and FT Raman spectroscopy. The study of the molecule is established using NMR spectroscopy. The thermal stability and decomposition behaviour of the grown crystal is analysed using TGA/DTA analyses. Third order nonlinear susceptibility χ 3 of the crystal was measured at the wavelength of 532 nm by z-scan technique. The observed high value of χ 3 is attributed to the hydrogen bond present in the structure of the crystal.
